california dreamin’ on such a winter’s day
“All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray
I’ve been for a walk on a winter’s day
I’d be safe and warm if I was in L.A
California dreamin’ on such a winter’s day”
Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to escape Texas rainstorms and enjoyed the sunny days in LA for the weekend. Well actually, it was only for two days: Saturday and half of Sunday. I loved my visit there because I spent valuable time with my college friend exploring her gracious city. As usual, we began our escapade by inhaling food, followed by binge shopping to burn some calories. We paused our adventure and ventured back to bed for a brief nap. I was pooped from the flight, which landed at 11pm on Friday in LA. [Omg, so the pilot was nice enough to get us to our destination half an hour early, but LAX, being LAX, we had to wait half an hour on the runway for an empty gate due to the closures of two gates under construction. UGH!] Continuing on to our itinerary, we hiked to see the iconic HOLLYWOOD sign, but with me being out of shape, I shortened the hike tremendously. Okay, I am not that lazy but I was not physically well! My ears would not pop from the altitude change, and it was getting way too cold for my liking as the sun began setting. Oh, for the remainder of my trip, we tested our metabolism and devoured delicious food… We ate at three different places within a 5 hour span. I LOVE FOOD TOO MUCH! [Maybe a future blog for all the yumminess we ate..?] I guess this is supposed to be a fashion blog rather than me chattering senselessly…
WAIT! One more rant before the fashion facet, please bear with me. I am sure everyone would love to hear about my TSA nightmare, so click here to read more. If not, continue on and keep on scrollin’.
Okay, this is one of my favorite combination – over the knee boots with a dainty dress to add some feminine touches to the look. ALL of these items are currently on sale, well except, the Chanel GST bag and the Hermes belt, but any substitutes for those two will do. PSA: if you did not know, no boutiques in the United States sell new Chanel GSTs, which have been discontinued. You can, however, purchase vintage handbags on other websites. [Belt details: mini constance in gold metal finish – in bleu indigo/rose eglantine. Handbag: Chanel GST Jumbo black caviar with gold hardware.]
My dress is Club Monaco’s Coriss dress in Maritime Navy with a silk outer shell and polyester lining inside. I love wearing silk anything because when the fabric grazes your skin, it feels lustrous. What’s great is that there is an optional slip inside so you’re not exposing too much or you could wear it as a tunic over your swimsuits in the summer. The versatility! The fabric is light and looks amazing when the wind is blowing through it (as seen in my featured image, lol). Perfect photo opp!
The microseude grey Paloma boots are designed by Sam Edelman and also available in black and tan [the tan color is exclusively on the sam edelman website]. These boots fit like a glove. Instead of adjusting the boot’s opening with strings or laces, they have toggles, which keep them in place without worrying about the top crunching up or having to retie your “shoe laces”. [Worst thing about OTK boots is having to continuously pull them up as you walk to keep them over-the-knee 😒] There are several websites selling these boots. However, I got mine from Zappos because VIP customers get upgraded to 1 business day shipping if ordered before 1pm PST. Order it today by 1pm PST, get it tomorrow before you go out! The perfect way to shop.
